Detainees/Families

How we help detainees

Every detainee held at the Dover IRC can call us on 0800 9179397 or 01304 242755 or 07540723238 and ask for our support. All detainees who make contact with us will be sent a phone card every month.

We can provide detainees with individual attention by allocating them a visitor who will meet them once a week. Our visitors act as a point of contact for the individual detainees and can help them by chasing up solicitors, providing clothes and getting hold of information on behalf of the detainee. Ways of supporting detainees will differ depending on their individual needs.

The DDVG can also refer detainees to other organisations such as Medical Justice Network and Bail for Immigration Detainees (BID). We can also assist detainees in completing Section 4 applications which will provide them with an address when applying for bail.

We can also help once they are released (Read more)

How we help families of detainees

We can now help families and close friends of detainees to come to visit them at the Dover IRC. They will not need to pay for their train tickets. We will!

Detainees can call us anytime on 0800 9179397 or 01304 242755 or 07540 723238 for more information.

Please read our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) so you can easily understand how this scheme works.

This pilot project is funded by the J Paul Getty JNR Charitable Trust and for now every detainee is entitled to apply only one for this support.
